Transfer Bench

A transfer bench (also called a tub transfer bench) is a bathing seat designed to span the wall of a bathtub. Two of its legs sit inside the tub and two sit outside, creating a continuous seat from outside the tub to inside it.

How it works

Instead of stepping over a high, slippery tub wall — the single most dangerous moment in bathing for many seniors — the user sits on the outside half of the bench and slides across to the inside. This keeps them seated and supported the entire time, eliminating the need to lift a leg over the edge.

Who benefits most

A transfer bench is ideal for seniors with limited leg mobility, balance concerns, or those recovering from surgery or a stroke, who use a standard bathtub with high walls. For walk-in showers, a standard shower chair is usually a better fit.
